So I finally started my blogging project with my class last month! I’ve been wanting to try out blogging with my students since last year, but wanted some time to explore and learn more. I set the project up to be rather open-ended. Students are required to post at least once per week. They may choose any topic that is important or interesting to them. On occasion, I assign a specific topic. My main goal is that they are writing about something of interest and writing for an audience.
Overall, the students love to blog! They enjoy writing, reading other blogs and getting comments. I’m particularly excited because I am looping with this group. I’m hoping to continue the blogs through the summer and into next year. It’s another great way to build our learning community and utilize the technology standards (typing, internet use, online safety). My next step is to get the students connected with some other kids to read and comment on their blogs. I’m pleased with the progress so far and can’t wait to see how their writing progresses!

Any comments on how you use blogs in your classroom are appreciated or if you’d like to connect our classes!
